The hyaluronic acid is derived from plant sources. In a multi-stage fermentation process, starch from unprocessed corn is converted into hyaluronic acid by bacterial cultures and then filtered. The result is a highly purified, vegan hyaluronic acid with an optimal molecular structure. It can be easily metabolized and is readily available to the body as needed.

Is it possible for unwanted water retention to occur due to the water-binding properties of hyaluronic acid?

No. Mechanisms operating on a microscopic scale prevent unwanted water retention or unnatural swelling of the skin. Unnatural water retention is instead related to the lymphatic system and has nothing to do with hyaluronic acid in the connective tissue.
